Portrait Commissions

I have worked as a professional portrait photographer for almost twenty years, and this background gives me a real advantage in portraiture - especially in understanding light.

Since discovering watercolour, I have come to believe that few things are more unique and authentic than an original watercolour portrait. Because of the medium’s spontaneous and somewhat unpredictable nature, it is impossible to replicate a painting. I’ve even tried copying my own work - and believe me, it’s impossible.

I am in the rare position of being able to offer both professional portrait photography (as reference material and as art in its own right) and the final watercolour painting.

I also happily work from photos you provide, and will guide you on which images will translate best into striking paintings.
